| Configuring Community
Servers
You can view, add, modify, and delete, set as default, and connect to community servers via the Community Servers dialog box. Viewing Your Community Server List You can view a complete listing of your configured community servers in the Community Servers dialog box. See procedures for adding, modifying, and deleting communities below. 1. Select Tools, Community Servers... 2. The Community Servers dialog box is displayed. This dialog box displays a list of configured communities. The communities are listed with community name and server address. The current community is indicated by a red check mark. 3. Press Cancel to exit without saving any changes; press OK to save changes and exit. Adding a Community Server As you discover additional communities, you can easily configure Virtual Places to allow access to them and to the people participating in them. 1. Select Tools, Community Servers... The Community Servers dialog box is displayed. 2. Enter a community name. 3. Enter a server address. 4. Press Add. The new community server is added in the appropriate place in the alphabetical Community Server List. 5. Press Cancel to exit without saving any changes; press OK to save changes and exit. Modifying an Existing Community Server You can change community names and/or server addresses for configured communities. 1. Select Tools, Community Servers... The Community Servers dialog box is displayed. 2. From the Community Server List, select the community server you wish to modify. 3. Optionally modify the community name. 4. Optionally modify the server address. 5. Press Modify. The community server information is modified, and if necessary, its position is changed in the alphabetical Community Server List. 6. Press Cancel to exit without saving any changes; press OK to save changes and exit. Removing a Community Server You can remove existing communities from the Community Server List. 1. Select Tools, Community Servers... The Community Servers dialog box is displayed. 2. From the Community Server List, select the community you wish to delete. 3. Press Remove. The selected community server is deleted from the community server list. 4. Press Cancel to exit without saving any changes; press OK to save changes and exit. Manually Connecting to a Community 1. Select Tools, Community Servers... The Community Servers dialog box is displayed. 2. From the Community Server List, select the community to which you wish to connect. 3. Press Connect. You are connected to the selected community server and the dialog box is closed. Setting a Default Community Server 1. Select Tools, Community Servers... The Community Servers dialog box is displayed. 2. From the Community Server List, select the community you wish to be the default. 3. Press Set Default. 4. The selected server becomes the default and the change is written to the Preferences. (Alternately, you can edit the Preferences directly.) 5. Press OK to exit. |
