Welcome to Virtual Places, an avatar-based application that enables live interaction on any Web page, anywhere in the world. The first time you launch Virtual Places, you will enter your personal information.

1. Start Virtual Places.

If this is your first session, the Edit Identity dialog box is displayed.

2. Optionally edit your Virtual Places identity:

• Enter your personal information.
• Optionally change your picture.
• Click OK to save your changes.

3. Sign on to the community:

As a guest:

• Optionally enter your user name (if no user name is entered, you will be assigned a guest name) and leave the Password field blank. Note that you can not use a nickname that has been registered by a registered member of the community.
• Optionally deselect the Filter Words option. Filtered words are those that are considered unsuitable for the community. Filtered words are displayed as a # for each letter in chat, IMs, tours, etc.
• Press Sign On to sign on as a guest.

• Enter your user name.
• Enter your password.
• Optionally deselect the Filter Words option. Filtered words are those that are considered unsuitable for the community. Filtered words are displayed as a # for each letter in chat, IMs, tours, etc.
• Press Sign On to sign on.

Note that you can register to the community and/or change your password by clicking the appropriate link on the Signon.

You are connected to a community server. (You can change communities and set a different default community at any time during the session.) Your Web browser navigates to the default place, and the Virtual Places Indicator is displayed to the left of the location field.
