Firewalls

The Virtual Places firewall function deals with existing firewalls and ensures smooth communication through the firewall regardless of whether clients are on the near or far side.

Virtual Places offers a number of connection methods for clients residing behind corporate firewalls:

  • Virtual Places well known port (1533) if it is open for outbound TCP/IP.
  • FTP port (21) if it is open for outbound TCP/IP.
  • A SOCKS 4 or SOCKS 5 Proxy server at the site if it is configured to allow outgoing TCP/IP on port 1533.
  • An HTTP Proxy using the Secure Sockets Protocol (SSL).
  • HTTP Proxy using the HTTP protocol.
To use the voice chat features the following ports must be open as well: TCP 3450 and TCP 8000-9000.

Clients are configured to work in the corresponding method, in a manner similar to that of other Internet client applications such as browsers.
